Inaugural Planting of Mizunara Oak Saplings
Eighteen months have passed since the inception of this community, during which time we have successfully undertaken initiatives to contribute to both the Japanese whisky industry and its enthusiasts.
The initiation of this community endeavor amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic was met with various hurdles. However, we extend our deepest gratitude to all members who have provided unwavering support throughout these adversities. Your steadfast commitment has been invaluable, and we sincerely appreciate it.
A portion of the membership fees received from our members has been allocated towards the planting of Mizunara oak saplings, a vital component in the realm of Japanese whisky. These saplings were ceremoniously planted in the mountains of Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, the birthplace of the esteemed former Chief Blender of Suntory, now Honorary Chief Blender, Seiichi Koshimizu.
This initiative stands as a testament to the collective contribution made by the members of our community, "In," towards the city of Kofu. Through their participation in this endeavor, our members now embody the role of "contributors to the future of the Japanese whisky industry."

On the day of the event, Japan experienced widespread heavy rainfall, with Tokyo and other areas enduring severe weather conditions. However, at the planting site in Kofu City, we were fortunate to have only light rain, enabling us to carry out the planting amidst a gentle shower, providing the ideal amount of moisture.
Following the conclusion of the tree planting, we engaged in a whisky toast with the citizens of Kofu City, commemorating the successful culmination of the Mizunara oak sapling planting initiative. During the event, alongside remarks from the Mayor of Kofu City and Seiichi Koshimizu, Kenichi Hashimoto of Ryozenpaku shared a memorable quote: "The rain bestowed from the heavens flows into the Mizunara, eventually becoming the water of life (whisky)."

The Mizunara oak saplings generously donated by our members are flourishing here in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, steadily growing larger and poised to mature into casks for future generations of Japanese whisky enthusiasts. Whether it takes 100 or 200 years, the indisputable fact remains that new Mizunara trees have been planted in this region.
We extend our profound gratitude once more to all members of "In" for their invaluable contribution to the Japanese whisky industry and its enthusiasts through this exemplary initiative. Thank you sincerely.
The subsequent day, the weather transitioned to clear skies, almost as if the previous day's rain had been a mere illusion. Captivated by the Mizunara oak saplings, we eagerly journeyed to the site.

The Mizunara oak saplings were thriving under the clear skies, radiating vitality. Members of the local community joined us and diligently placed fences around each sapling to protect them from wildlife, such as deer.
Additionally, nearby, there were young Mizunara trees, albeit still small in size.

Once again, we are reminded of the essence of the forest through its light and air.
Whisky, crafted through the strength of these trees, embodies a profound connection to nature. It is indeed a cherished libation, evoking the very essence of "aqua vitae" (water of life), from which whisky's origins are derived.
We have compiled a video showcasing the events of the Mizunara oak sapling planting day, featuring the names of our esteemed members as a tribute.
This tree planting initiative will become an annual tradition. In the upcoming year, we intend to facilitate member participation by establishing a predetermined capacity.
As stakeholders in the future of the Japanese whisky industry, we take pride in our identity as contributors. We look forward to the continued support of our esteemed "In" community in the years to come.

The City of Kofu, Seiichi Koshimizu, and My Concierge Japan, in collaboration with the Japanese Whisky Community "In," aim to advance forest development for the future by synergizing their respective resources, attractions, and expertise. The overarching objective is to contribute to the sustainable development and growth of the Japanese whisky industry, ultimately working towards the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Objective of Tree Planting
The tree planting initiative aims to foster Mizunara growth within Kofu City-owned forests, with the dual purpose of preserving watershed forests for Kofu citizens and ensuring a sustainable supply of Mizunara essential for Japanese whisky production.
